Description Site contamination is defined in S5B of the Environment Protection Act 1993 (EP Act). Mapping includes the following S83: Notification where serious or material environmental harm is caused or threatened. S83A: Notification of site contamination of underground water. S109: The information submitted to the EPA in relation to serious or material environmental harm. SA HEALTH COMMISSION: A report prepared by or on behalf of SA Health. EPA ASSESSMENT REPORT: A report of the assessment of the existence, nature or extent of site contamination or any other contamination of land by chemical substances by or on behalf of the EPA. LIABILITY TRANSFER: An agreement for the exclusion or limitation of liability for site contamination under s103E of the EP Act. ASSESSMENT ORDER: A written statutory order under s103H of the EP Act that requires an appropriate person to undertake assessments to be carried out of the nature and extent of any site contamination on or below the surface. REMEDIATION ORDER: A written statutory order under s103J of the EP Act that requires an appropriate person to undertake actions to remediate a site where site contamination has been identified. VOLUNTARY PROPOSAL: An agreement with the EPA relating to an approved voluntary site contamination assessment or site remediation proposal under s103I or 103K of the EP Act. AUDIT: A review by an auditor which examines assessments or remediation carried out by another person in respect of known or suspected site contamination on or below the surface of the site. Audits are commenced by notification, may be subject to termination and completed through an audit report under s103Z of the EP Act. Also includes audits terminated/completed before 1/7/2009. OTHER NOTIFICATIONS: Records where information for a site is held by the EPA but which has been insufficient to determine whether site contamination or serious or material environmental harm exists, these records are not currently held in the public register.
Dataset Use Restricted Access - A licence agreement is required for data use. This data includes sites where the EPA holds site contamination information. Details of the information can be obtained by request to the EPA. Mapping indicates the approximate location of a site contamination record. Site contamination does not necessarily exist within the polygon area. Off-site monitoring locations for older records may not be recorded. The EPA's Site Contamination Branch should be contacted to verify the accuracy of the data.

Data Quality

Lineage The data was obtained from an extract of EPAs GENI database. Sites were matched with the Certificate of Title references to determine the approximate location of the site. Where known, some CT parcels have been edited to better define the location of the site contamination within the CT parcel. No mapping is produced where there is no Certificate of Title information or the Certificate of Title information is out of date in GENI.
Completeness Considered complete for EPA Site Contamination Locations.
Positional Accuracy Based on 1:1,000 scale (cadastral boundaries). Site contamination does not necessarily exist within the cadastral area, or the entirety of the cadastral area.

env\achenoweth 20-DEC-2018: 'Other notifications' are records where information for a site is held by the EPA but which has been insufficient to determine whether site contamination or serious or material environmental harm exists. As a result, this data layer includes records which are not currently held in the Public Register under section 109 of the Environment Protection Act 1993. The records are generally historical and may include limited information about site activities, investigations and/or other types of reporting. The data layer can be used to identify the approximate location of the other notification records Restricted Access - A licence agreement is required for data use.
