Description Description Provides a specimen-based inventory of indigenous and naturalised plants, algae and fungi known to occur in South Australia. The data has associated spatial point data, textual ecological data and date information to provide an historical perspective. Point feature class. Data Quality Lineage An inventory of information as supplied by specimen labels. The collection includes specimens dating back to 1770, a significant number dated post-1920s and the bulk dated post-1950s. The information was initially assembled by the specimen collector in field books or on individual labels. The specimens whether it be plant, algae or fungi were collected from wild populations and labelled with information such asSELECT 1 FROM DUAL; geographical origin, associated ecological descriptions and detailed characteristic descriptions. The specimens are essential to guarantee the accuracy of the current name associated with a record. They provide a voucher to verify the identity of the biological species associated with the label data. This data is now being captured electronically in TEXPRESS database format. Completeness This is the most comprehensive floristic record available, however, it is significantly incomplete in terms of documenting the occurrence of all species of plants in wild populations of South Australia. Positional Accuracy Horizontal accuracy is variable, however most records are +/- 100m. to +/- 10 km, depending on method of collection. Given as latitude and longitude with a precision rating of 1-6. Sources includeSELECT 1 FROM DUAL; Records (100%), descriptive locality statements from which a geocode is derived using the States Gazetteer of Geographical Place Names, a latitude/longitude from a GPS (1%) or map (15%) or a grid reference (1%) provided by the collector. Where two or more are associated with a record these are used to check accuracy and the most precise is chosen for ouput. Vertical accuracy has minor relevance +/- 50m to +/- 500 m.
