Description

DescriptionThe dataset represents navigable roads, including public and private access roads and tracks. A separate data layer stores 'unformed' DCDB centrelines which do not represent navigable roads. A limited number of associated features are stored separately as point features.
UsageUsed to provide a statewide spatial data coverage of roads. Can be used as a framework layer for spatial analysis and mapping within South Australia.

Data Quality

LineageThe dataset has been compiled from a combination of DCDB road centreline data and Topographic road data. In general, public road alignments have been sourced from the DCDB and private roads and tracks from the Topographic dataset. Road data in the pastoral regions of the State has been sourced from Geoscience Australia.
CompletenessDataset is complete over the whole State
Positional AccuracyAccuracy of road alignments varies throughout the coverage depending on method of capture. In general, roads captured through DCDB processes in urban areas are generally within +/- 5 metres of their true position. In rural areas the accuracy is generally within +/- 25metres. In pastoral regions sourced from Geoscience Australia the accuracy is of the order of +/- 125 metres.

Maintenance MethodPublic roads are generally updated dynamically through DCDB processes based on plans of subdivision. Private roads and tracks are maintained through region-based update programs by heads-up-digitising from orthophotography and integration of data from other sources. Major road alignments are maintained through DPTI business processes.
