Dataset Type Spatial
Description This dataset contains Fire Management Zones that are recorded in Bushfire Management Area Plans. Fire Management Zones managed by the South Australian Department for Environment and Water are stored in a separate Fire Management Zones dataset. Each type of Fire Management Zone is defined in the document "Fire Management Zone Standard and Guidance for Use 2.0", which is available on the Bushfire Management Planning page on the CFS website. The following is an excerpt from that document taken in March 2021: "Where significant risks, either from bushfire or inappropriate fire regimes, are identified in an approved fire management plan, FMZs may be applied as a strategy to identify where fire management activities are considered a priority to mitigate the identified risk/s."
Dataset Use This data is displayed in Bushfire Management Area Plans for reference by BMC member agencies and other stakeholders in bushfire management planning.

Data Quality

Lineage In 2020, this dataset was derived from a layer that was previously displayed on the Kangaroo Island BMAP and was titled 'KI Fire Management Zones'. The dataset was renamed 'BMAP Fire Management Zones' to make it applicable across the entire state. All records were carried across to the new layer, and some additional fields were added. The layer is maintained by the CFS Bushfire Management Planning Unit.
Completeness Complete. However, this is a dataset that will change over time.

BMAP Fire Management ZonesnameNametext100100An informal name used by stakeholders to easily refer to specific Fire Management Zones. These are not enforced to be unique so multiple records with the same name may exist.
BMAP Fire Management ZonesobjectivesObjectivestext100100This field allows the capture of objectives that are specific to individual Fire Management Zones. Objectives in this field are in addition to the prescribed objectives of each zone type. Those objectives are specified in the 'Fire Management Zone Standard and Guidance for Use', available at https://www.cfs.sa.gov.au/site/prepare_for_a_fire/bushfire_management_planning.jsp
